Tuition Options & Info

There are so many aspects of photography we can cover, I suggest that before we start any paid for tuition we have an introductory session to identify the areas I can be most helpful in, and what level you are currently at.

I am essentially a photographer of people, shooting portraits and events, but over the years I have photographed landscapes, architecture, interiors, travel, still life, action and other genres and depending on your level of experience, I will tailor my teaching to help you in the best way to progress and enhance your skills.

Even if you choose to have just one session with me, my aim will be for you to come away inspired and better equipped both practically and psychologically to take better photographs.

Online Tuition - 1-1 £50 per hour (includes some communication before and after each session)

Tuition can take place online via zoom and by sharing our screens so I can teach and demonstrate skills and techniques and you can share and discuss your images with me.

Topics can include:

• helping you make sensible decisions with the hard- and software you need

• reviewing & editing your images

• processing & making adjustments to your images

• converting images to black and white and adjusting colour

• adding digital effects and retouching your images

• preparing images for print & uploading and sharing online

• getting your images into physical form - printing, framing, album making

• learning to metadata, organise and archive sensibly and efficiently

In-Person Tuition in my studio and/or on-location 1-1 £50 per hour (includes some communication before and after each session)

All the above can take place in my studio and on-location but in addition, we can cover

• set up and understanding your camera and anything your manual is confusing you about!

• shoot pictures together in the studio and outside

• all aspects of composition, angles, looking for the light, creating symmetry, texture, colour, shapes etc

• understand exposure and how to shoot manually for total control over your end result

• how to create different effects like silhouettes & break the rules

• the psychology of taking portraits and documentary/ candid images - of your children, capturing or approaching strangers on your travels, recording an event or building a story or legacy/record

• Light - natural, flash & constant light sources & shooting at different times of day, and in different weather

• Having an idea & constructing & directing an image

• Creating a physical record - printing, framing, albums

• First steps in building a photography business
