I'm drawn to people - both observing with my documentary work, and connecting with my portraiture. Often the two come together in a commission. My fascination with people is what brought me to photography.
I love all the Arts - music, film, literature, poetry, painting as well as photography.
After my degree in Art History, I worked for ten years at the BBC as an editor before becoming a professional photographer following a diploma in professional practice at the London College of Printing.
I have been commissioned for books, magazines and the press, but the mainstay of my photographic life has, and proudly continues to be, photographing ‘extraordinary, ordinary people’ - at key events in life, through childhood and attempting to capture the essence of a person in a portrait. You can read some of the responses to my work from clients on the reviews pages.
I am proud of my work though always striving to be better - and of my professionalism, empathy, commitment and ability to connect with others.
Some words that continue to inspire me:
'The Chinese say, for a work of art, you need three things – the hands, the eye and the heart.’ (David Hockney)
‘… to capture the sublime in the every day.” (Chris Killip)
