Barnes, London Christening Photography
There’s something about a Christening or Baptism and that moment when baby’s head is gently dowsed in the holy water, marking their entrance into the Church community, that always affects me no matter how many I cover over the years. Perhaps it is reminiscent of the moment of childbirth, that first cry that marks your safe entry into the world. Often there is a delayed reaction in that moment too - bewilderment and sometimes tears, before all is well and the smiles abound.
Beau’s christening photography started at home with an hour of relaxed documentary style family pictures mixed with portraits, and in this case a precious opportunity to capture Beau with his grandparents who were over from the States for his special day. Then it was time to squeeze him into the heirloom family christening gown and the short walk through the streets of Barnes to the 12th Century St Mary’s Church for the christening ceremony.
My aim with Christenings is the same as with Family photography sessions - to capture connections and relationships, moments of ritual, humour and adoration and to produce a family record that will trigger genuine memories - for those to delight in recalling, and for those to young to remember. Just as you were, just as it was.
All pictures below are in black and white but you will receive all your images fully processed and hand touched in both colour and black and white if you choose me as your Christening photographer.
