Family Photography with 4 children in Fulham, London SW6

“Anna was charged with capturing us and our four small, unreliable children. She was brilliant. She builds a quick and easy rapport with everyone from awkward older boys to shy two-year-olds.

My husband has very little patience and there was a danger he might not co-operate. Anna has great emotional intelligence and just picked up on that without me even having to explain. She worked her magic and made the whole process completely painless for him!”

This was the second time I’d met Emma and her family for some photographs - the first at her youngest son’s christening at Our Most Holy Redeemer & St. Thomas More (what a name for a church!) in Chelsea. Both occasions were warm Sundays in late-summer and this time I headed to the family home in Fulham for some family photography with her husband and 4 children.
Except for my portraiture in the studio service that I have now started offering for older teenagers, I always visit my families at their homes - or sometimes at a location of their choice - for a photography session. I want to capture pictures that have meaning - meaning because they are relaxed and natural but also in an environment that will mean something and form part of a genuine legacy of family life - in this case, a typical family Sunday morning and making a record of the children and connections between family members at this juncture in their lives. The key is taking time and allowing the session to be totally child- and family-led, mixed in with some moments when we come together for a family group portrait, the siblings together and on their own.
I always look for something to break the ice with children and there’s nothing like a family pet to help me out. Bozo was introduced and before long any shyness had vanished and they were fighting over who would demonstrate their skills to me first at the piano.
Later on, we headed out for a typical family walk through the familiar streets of Fulham, practising scooter and tricycling skills along the way, to Fulham cemetery stopping to pick early blackberries and of course some obligatory climbing of trees.

I’d love to talk to you about some family photography - whether you are expecting a new baby, have an existing family of 6 or anything in between!
We can talk about your family, I can explain my approach and we can find a date for your session.
